Peter Lyons
I have been around now for 60 years, I have always liked wood and was always
able to make a few things from timber in my spare time. One of the first projects I made was the "Readers
Digest" bed, a project in an early DIY book published by Readers Digest. this was a double bed made from
Parana Pine. A mahogany coffee table followed, which has been around now for some 30 years.
The
purchase of a lathe in 1999 has broadened the scope of the things I can do. I have made many items on
the lathe. I joined the Irish Woodturners Guild and enjoy their monthly get togethers in the Woodshed
at Templepatrick. I am now the Honorary Secretary for the Ulster Chapter of the Guild. I was recently
elected to the post of Journal Editor for the IWG. I continue to work at my woodturning to improve
the standard of my work . I have been awarded prizes for various competitions within the Ulster Chapter
and have found that turned wooden objects make wonderful gifts.
I am a member of the Woodland
Trust and act as a volunteer Warden for Kilcooley Wood, in Bangor Co. Down. This involves walking around
a Wood to watch the trees growing, it is such hard work I love it !!!
